Making a Positive Difference

Educational Support

Olga logo.jpgOlga Primary School in East London is our educational Charity partner where, since 2014, we have been volunteering on the Reading Partner weekly scheme with Year 3 pupils.

Through our commitment to the school we have developed an ongoing relationship with them and have since participated annually at their School Sports Day and “Science Week” events and have volunteered in physical “clean up” operations during the school’s expansion project.

In 2016 we provided financial assistance to Olga to enable the Year 6 students to attend the final year “school journey” at an offsite residential centre where they participated in team building activities and personal challenges in a rural environment. In addition we were delighted to be able to volunteer our help on this trip.

During 2017, in conjunction with the school's expansion project, we donated funds to assist with the funding of school trips and the expansion of a gardening and animal area within the school grounds thereby benefitting all of the year groups.

Mentoring and Language Skills Coaching

Through the Lloyd’s Community Programme and Tower Hamlets Education Business Partnership we participate in Mentoring programmes with students at secondary and sixth form level, both in preparation for further education and entering the workplace.

We mentor Lloyd's apprentices; young adults entering the workplace for the first time and working towards qualifications while gaining valuable employment experience and skills.

We also participate on the Lloyd’s Language Skills Coaching course for Lloyd’s employees who would like to improve their written and spoken English.

Lloyd’s Community Programme

We have volunteered at the Lloyd’s Community Programme Spring and Summer Neighbourhood Games events annually since 2015, this event brings together children from Sports Clubs from across the London borough of Tower Hamlets to compete in a wide variety of sporting activities.

Community & Environment

In 2016 we commenced a partnership with Benefacto; a social enterprise on a mission to engage more professional people in meaningful volunteering.

Benefacto specifically represent charities in the East London area, on our doorstep, and offer a wide variety of volunteering opportunities; from environmental to age group specific to skills based, to appeal to a wider demographic. This offers a broad range for individuals and teams to participate in, either out of personal interest or as a team building and bonding activity, outside of our usual context and directly impacting our community in a positive way.

This is supported by our Corporate Volunteering policy which gives staff two paid days volunteering leave per annum.

Atrium 2018 Charity Partner - Charitable Giving

So as to direct our fundraising to meaningful causes we asked our colleagues to nominate charities to which funds raised during events in 2018 would be sent. This year we are delighted to be supporting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), chosen to address the three main areas of concern; research, treatment and support.
