Richard Harries joined Syndicate 609 in 1997 as the Underwriter responsible for developing and managing the Energy account. Richard started his career at Willis Faber & Dumas Limited (WFD) as a graduate trainee in 1987 and in the following year he joined the Oil and Gas division. He worked in Dubai setting up and managing WFD's Energy department in the Middle East. He returned from Dubai in 1994 and became a Director of WFD in 1995. He was appointed Active Underwriter with effect from 1.1.2008.

Bruce Carman is an Aviation Underwriter specialising in Aviation War business.  He joined Syndicate 609 in 1988 as an Underwriting Assistant.  Bruce began his career in The Institute of London Underwriters in 1987.

Simon Clegg BSc (Eng), C.Eng, MiMechE, ACGI, ACII
Non-Marine Property Underwriter
 
Simon Clegg is the Onshore Property Underwriter, joining Syndicate 609 in 2001.  He commenced his career in insurance in 1989 with Swiss Re UK having previously spent seven years working as a Mechanical Engineer. In 1995 he was recruited to the Lloyd's Market by Wellington Underwriting where he was an Energy Underwriter until he moved to the AEGIS Energy Syndicate in 1999.

Gloria Davies FCII
Fine Art & Specie and Cargo Underwriter

Gloria Davies joined Syndicate 609 in December 2001 as the Underwriter responsible for the Cargo, Fine Art & Specie accounts.  She commenced her career in insurance in 1987 with The Institute of London Underwriters, transferring to Lloyd's in 1995.

Toby Drysdale BSc (Hons), ACII
Liability Underwriter

Toby Drysdale underwrites Liability, Bloodstock and Non Marine Treaty business.  He joined Syndicate 609 in 1993.  He is a member of the LMA Livestock Business Panel.

Richard Tomlin
Marine Underwriter

Richard Tomlin joined Syndicate 609 in October 2001 specialising in the Marine/Property account. Richard started underwriting in 1983 for Ian Agnew's Syndicate. When the Agnew Syndicate joined Wellington in 1990 Richard specialised in Hull & Short Tail Marine business, becoming a Divisional Underwriter in 1999.

John Spence ACII
Aviation Underwriter

John Spence underwrites the Aviation Hull and Liability accounts comprising both Airline and General Aviation.  He joined Syndicate 609  in September 2003 having worked at Hardy Syndicate 382 for 20 years previously.

Richard Young BA (Hons), ACII
Marine Underwriter

Richard Young is a Marine Underwriter with particular emphasis on the short-tail book.  He joined Syndicate 609 in 1998.  Prior to joining Syndicate 609 Richard worked for Methuen Underwriting and ACE London.  Richard is on the Trading Warranties sub-committee to the Joint Hull Committee.
