Atrium appoints Marcus Hawkes to lead a new Product Recall team
(01.06.26) Atrium, the leading specialty insurer at Lloyd’s, today announces the appointment of Marcus Hawkes as Head of Product Recall. Marcus will develop a book of Product Recall business with a focus on automotive manufacturing. Product Recall is a new standalone class for Atrium, enhancing their specialty underwriting capability in line with their 5 year transformation strategy.
Product Recall insurance helps businesses respond and recover quickly if they need to recall a product because of a fault or contamination. The average product recall cost is now $35M, a figure most companies significantly underestimate.
Marcus has over 12 years of market experience, working on both the carrier and broker side. He joins Atrium from Apollo, where he worked as an Executive Underwriter. Prior to this, he worked at Lockton, and Marsh.
Peter Laidlaw, Active Underwriter, Syndicate 609, comments,
“Launching a dedicated Product Recall team is a key milestone for Atrium in our continued development as an expert specialty insurer and the home for market-leading talent. Regardless of size, manufacturers and producers are operating in a climate of increased regulatory and legal scrutiny. Marcus will provide what clients need to help protect their businesses and customers, allowing them to move forward with confidence.
Marcus has developed a strong reputation and extensive experience in Product Recall underwriting. He will build on his track record for managing complex portfolios across a range of clients, positioning Atrium as a ‘go-to’ market for brokers and clients.”
Atrium will offer product recall insurance as a standalone product and as a complement to existing casualty business lines.
Marcus will join Atrium in Q4 2026 once he has completed his contractual obligations.
