During 2018 Atrium colleagues participated in a vast range of volunteering, fundraising and charitable activities.

Educational Support, Mentoring & Language Coaching:

We completed another year of our weekly volunteering commitment as Reading Partners to a group of Year 3 pupils at Olga Primary School in East London.

As our relationship with the school continues to build it has been our pleasure to get more involved, presenting to pupils during their annual Science Week event, helping out on Sports Day, hosting the pupils at our offices for a Christmas Carol concert...

In addition to our support at Primary level, a number of colleagues have served as mentors to students and young adults either in or aiming for higher education or assistance with finding work, through application and CV advice.

During 2018 we continued our Charity of the Year initiative

We asked our colleagues to nominate causes that were important to them and then vote on the short list. For 2018/19 we chose to partner with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). To kick this off a number of our colleagues took part in the Prudential 100 mile bike ride in July to raise money for the charity!

Operation Christmas Child: We donated Christmas gift boxes to displaced and refugee children abroad, bringing some cheer to children aged between 2 and 14 years of age.

September – Scouts Volunteer Day at Gilwell Park

In September, for the first time, a group of around 35 colleagues went to the Scouts headquarters at Gilwell Park and undertook a day of volunteering on the Estate, gardening, landscaping and maintaining the scout huts.

A great time was had by all and it was estimated that in one day the team managed to complete the equivalent of three months’ work of the regular grounds team.

Year-round volunteering = Individual and Team

During 2018 we continued our partnership with Benefacto, a social enterprise on a mission to engage more professional people in meaningful volunteering.

Benefacto offer a range of volunteering opportunities in the London area where our colleagues actively engage in volunteering activities with Homeless Drop-In Centres, Food Poverty charities, Social lunch clubs for the elderly, learning assistance with Technology and Community gardening.

September - City Giving Day

In September we joined our insurance peers in participating in the Lord Mayor of London's City Giving Day event.

July - Olga School Sports Day

This year we once again assisted at the Olga School Sports Day, refereeing, adjudicating and providing general assistance and support at this offsite event, great fun was had by all on a beautifully sunny day.

Atrium also supports a grass roots youth Football team - Curley Park Rangers FC U12's Kestrels team - the top Saturday team in the age group. Kestrels play in the North East Hampshire league.

April – Tough Mudder

In April ten of our colleagues undertook the Tough Mudder trial to raise money for Addenbrooke Hospital the course certainly lived up to its name! but it was an amazing feat with the team raising over £7,000 for the hospital.

March – Olga School Science Week

Every year, in March, Olga Primary School hold their Science Week event and our colleagues have been invited to be involved in presenting to classes across the whole school on topics such as Space, flight, meteorites and more. The sessions are interactive and always fun.
